The Colorado edition of I'm Thankful Four was started three years ago in Golden as an extension of the Indiana event. Only a simple e-mail started spreading the word and over 50 people came out to participate in the inaugural race. We appreciate all of that support through the first three years and we look forward to making the fourth annual run even better...and warmer than it was last year!
The run will start and end at Golden High School: 701 24th St, Golden, CO 80401. The race will start promptly at 8 AM but we are asking everyone to be there at 7:45 AM to be in a picture that will be shared with the participants in Indiana.
Packet pickup will be the morning of the race only at the high school.
Just like the Indiana run, the purpose of this run is to get together and celebrate with friends and family. Hence, this is a very simple, low-key run which means:
- We will not keep track of finish times, mile splits, or placement
- The only "award" you will receive is the feeling of your own accomplishment and, of course, the company of loved ones around you
- We are not planning on having any water stops, porta-johns, or any other course support along the way
- This is an OPEN course, meaning the streets will NOT be closed during the run; PLEASE BE CAUTIOUS
- We will provide some light post-run snacks and drinks
The proceeds of your entry fee will benefit the Kelsey Mikel Memorial Foundation, which provides college scholarship money to graduating high school students. Our goal is to obtain enough sponsors to cover the cost of the t-shirts, the food, and miscellaneous expenses. So you can rest easy knowing the majority of your entry fee is serving the main goal of the Foundation. We always accept race day entries, but please note that it is helpful if you register more than a week ahead of time to ensure that we have a t-shirt ready for you.
The distance of this run is four miles. Mile markers and turns on the course will be marked with signage (arrows) and sport cones. The course route is a loop that mostly follows the bike paths around Golden. However, at certain points, the route will force runners onto city streets. As mentioned above, the streets will NOT be closed so we ask that all runners and fans use caution and yield to all traffic. Neither race organizers, nor the Kelsey Mikel Memorial Foundation, will be held liable for any injuries that occur on race day including, but not limited to, those caused by traffic on the course. If you want to preview this course, you'll find a map of it below.
There will also be a two mile walk course again this year. This course will simply be an out-and-back on the first mile of the four mile course.
