The Indiana edition of I'm Thankful Four was started 12 years ago in Wakarusa, Indiana. When Kelsey Mikel passed away only 11 short years ago, the race quickly outgrew the humble venue of the Methodist Church. Today, nearly 1,000 friends gather at Northwood High School in Nappanee to commemorate Kelsey and celebrate Thanksgiving. We appreciate all of that support and we look forward to making this year's run even better.

Run Details

The run will start and end at Northwood High School: 2101 N. Main St, Nappanee, IN 46550. Pre-race announcements, pictures, music, restrooms, snacks and packet pickup will be held in the Activities Center behind the high school.

Key times to remember:

  • Packet Pick Up & Registration is 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23 at the NorthWood High School Activity Center
  • Race Day Packet Pick Up & Registration is 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 24 at the NorthWood Activity Center
  • Race times are 8:00 a.m. for the 4 Mile and 8:05 a.m. for the 2 Mile

In true I'm Thankful Four tradition, the purpose of this run is to get together and celebrate with friends and family. Hence, this is a very simple, low-key run which means:

  • We will not keep track of finish times, mile splits, or placement
  • The only "award" you will receive is the feeling of your own accomplishment and, of course, the company of loved ones around you
  • This is an OPEN course, meaning the streets will NOT be closed during the run; PLEASE BE CAUTIOUS and yield to traffic
  • We will provide some light post-run food and drinks

The proceeds of your entry fee will benefit the Kelsey Mikel Memorial Foundation, which provides college scholarship money to graduating high school students. Our goal is to obtain enough sponsors to cover the cost of the t-shirts, the food, and miscellaneous expenses. So you can rest easy knowing the majority of your entry fee is serving the main goal of the Foundation. We always accept race day entries for just five additional dollars.

The distance of this run is four miles. Mile markers and turns on the course will be marked on the pavement with sidewalk chalk and signage. This course winds its way through the beautiful countryside on a combination of country roads, bicycle paths, and neighborhood streets. The Nappanee police will help control traffic but, as mentioned above, we ask that all runners and fans use caution and yield to all traffic. Neither race organizers, nor the Kelsey Mikel Memorial Foundation, will be held liable for any injuries that occur on race day including, but not limited to, those caused by traffic on the course. If you want to preview this course, you'll find a map of it below.

As always, we will have a two mile walk course. This course winds its way through the surrounding neighborhood along the last mile of the four mile course.
